October 27, 2008 To My Family! This past week we had Zone Conference, it was an amazing experience to see where the Aaronic Priesthood was given to Joseph Smith. What an honor it was to stand in the exact spot on where God sent his Heavenly Messengers to restore the Gospel! When we got there I could instantly feel the power and peace of the spirit that dwelt there. We saw the area of the Hale's Home and where the foundation was. The we walked in a separate group to the restoration site. We walked silently down to the area by the river, what a great and powerful feeling came to me as we went to the area. As President Pugh read JSH 68-75, I began to cry because I knew it was true, that Angels did come, that this Church was and has been restored and Joseph was a true Prophet. After he read those scriptures, he said where the exact spot was that we could take some time and take pictures. I decided to kneel down where Joseph Smith knelt and prayed to my Father in Heaven. I thanked him for my Mother and Father and little Brother, for this true church and the opportunity to be able to serve in this great Mission of Pennsylvania! To be able to teach his restored gospel is such a blessing. What an amazing feeling it was to feel the spirit and know that my Father in Heaven heard my prayer and answered my concerns. After that, we walked to the graveyard to where Isaac and Elizabeth Hale and one of their children were buried and one of Joseph and Emma Smith's children. What an amazing feeling it was to stand where the prophets son was. We then went to the area of where the foundation area of Joseph and Emma Smith's home used to be. A great feeling came to me as President Pugh told us that most of the Book of Mormon was translated here. It was cool to be in that spiritual air. Taking pictures we headed back to the bus and then to the church nearby. Had lunch and then a testimony meeting. It was sweet to hear all of us Elders to bear our testimonies, Sister Pugh was in tears by the end. The first thing I stated was how grateful I am for my family and the love and support they have for me and how the gospel truly blesses families. We then got back on the bus and headed home. What a great Zone Conference we had indeed! I have enjoyed all the letters from you guys, I love the pictures Adam draws and that Dad adds. It helps me a lot when days are hard and reminds me of my purpose here. I pray and think of you, my loving family always. Your son, your missionary, Elder Holmes PS - It's Cold! What an awesome experience for Devin L. to have at the beginning of his mission. He will remember this experience and use it to help him when times are tough. Be sure to take a look at the pictures from this Zone Conference. |
