My Letters Home: August 14, 2009 - Letter

August 14, 2009

Dear Family,

So it's been pretty interesting in my new area, it's pretty ghetto, hahaha, as a cop car just now goes by...

Elder Tuipulotu is pretty cool, we've been able to work well together.  The weather just keeps getting hotter, yesterday it was so humid, Elder T's glasses fogged up when we got out of the a/c'd car.

The ward here is really awesome, this past Sunday we sang in the choir, went pretty well, I was bass.  The people over here on West Pennsylvania are pretty much the same when we go tracting.  My companion gets really nervous and talks really fast so I try to re-state what he says sometimes, he's only been out a little over 3 months.  We are actually moving to a better location/apartment.  I'm going to miss collecting the 9mm and 44 magnum's, yeah that a big freakin gun!

That woman that was shot in the fitness center is doing well, it's crazy that she is in my ward.  It's a really sad situation but everything is ok.  So I get to celebrate my birthday @ a members home, the Tames, they such an awesome family.  They're pretty much the mission family, their fridge is covered with missionary pictures.  The area we cover is huge and it's going to get even bigger when we combine next transfer. It's crazy how fast time is going by.  I can't believe it's been a year in September.

My birthday was pretty sweet, I finally was able to get enough money for a GPS.  Thanks for spoiling me!  Things are going well, today a member gave us a referral, we go over to teach him and he wants to get baptized...he's excited about coming to church on Sunday.  Jaron the dude that gave us the referral is going on his mission next month.  He's like yeah my friend wants to have that "good feeling" and he doesn't get that at his church anymore.  So hopefully we can get him baptized (Allen) before Jaron leaves, would be cool for Jaron to baptize his friend before he leaves for his mission.

I haven't been able to email Elder Mills lately so I don't know how Alice is doing, hopefully well!

Mom, Dad, and Adam,  I'm so grateful for this church, for the knowledge that we are blessed with, that I'm trying to share with everyone I and my companion can.  The Book of Mormon is one of the greatest gifts our Heavenly Father has given us, take advantage of it!  "No unhallowed hand can stop the work from progressing."  So far I have taught the homeless, poor, drug lords, preachers, and other faiths.  I've had objects thrown at me, been sworn at, spit at, laughed at, made fun of...This is the best time of my life.  Because of the angels in my life, that I have the privilege and honor of calling my mother, father, and younger brother.

I love you,

Elder Holmes

After that letter there in only one thing to say.....please hand me a tissue.
