My Letters Home: July 30, 2009 - Email

July 30, 2009

Dear Family,

Well I'm gone.... and now I'm in Pittsburgh, its cool so far. I'll be sending my camera card home once I get some pics I want off it. So don't send anything obviously to the old apartment. My new companion is Elder Tuipolotu, he's Tongan and way cool, he's only been out for 3 months and I'm his greenie buster. It took forever to get to Pittsburgh from Waynesboro, like 4 1/2 hours...it was a pretty long drive. The apartment we're in isn't too bad, but the area next to us is going to be closing and we'll be covering it as well, so we're going to be having a huge area, will take 2 hours to drive from one side all the way to the other.

The Pittsburgh Elders have been what a little more lenient on the rules and work, its really interesting on how missions can be so different. Before president Pugh left he told all of us not to lower your standards but to raise them as a companionship. I really miss the Pughs though, its hard to make the change .

Things are going well though, I'm still working out and trying not to spend as much money as possible, sometimes $130 just isn't enough though... I think I'm doing well with it for the most part with spending money, a lot of elders use way too much of their home account, my last companion elder mills spent at least $400 dollars extra last transfer on just whatever.

Don't really know too much about the area yet but it sounds like its pretty missionary minded, the ward is having a 40 day fast for us this month, 1 person fasts one day and then it gets pasted on.  We get fed at least 3 times a week which isn't bad. Its my birthday is 12 days, YEEEAAAAHHHHH!

Before I left I gave Alice the Book of Mormon that you gave me for Christmas with the family testimony in it, I really hope she gets baptized, I left some stamps for Elder Mills to send me pictures if she does, I think she will.

P.S. Tell the primary thanks for the letters/pictures!

Love yunz

Elder Holmes

Aliquippa is about an hour North of Pittsburg.  It's amazing how he's gone from one end of the state to the other.  There are quite a few people in the area so he'll have some good conversations I'm sure.
