My Letters Home: May 11, 2009 - Letter

May 11, 2009

Dear Family,

These past few weeks have gone by really quick, a lot has happened so far.  WE have been able to find 10 new investigators and have taught a lot of people.  Tracting has been a lot more enjoyable since most of the people we talk to are at least friendly to us, just not interested.  We're working with a part member family.  The wife and daughter are pretty much going to get baptized soon as she stops drinking coffee and she has cut down tremendously.

The weather has been really nice as well, lots of cool breezes with mid 80's weather.  It's still pretty hot, but it could be worse.

This past week we had some pigeons fly into our apartment building, it was hilarious trying to get them out.  They kept flying into the windows, I've got video of it.  I'll be sending the card home soon.  The ward here is so awesome, we're getting fed 22 nights out of the month!

It was awesome talking with you guys on Sunday, thanks for making me cry 1/2 the time...hahaha.  I miss you guys too though not as much as when I first came out though.

"I have often said one of the greatest secrets of missionary work is work!  If a missionary works, he will get the spirit; if he gets the spirit, he will teach by the spirit, he will touch the hearts of the people and he will be happy.  There will be no homesickness, no worrying about families, for all time and talents and interests are centered on the work of the ministry.  Work, work, work - there is no satisfactory substitute, especially in missionary work."  President Ezra Taft Benson

These past 8 months I've definitely been "lost" in the work, and it's awesome to see how the gospel changes and blesses people as it comes into their lives.  I love you all so much, and miss you, but I gotta do my thing mom so stop worrying!

Love ya,

Elder Holmes

A beautiful letter from a beautiful servant of God.  We're so proud of him and know he is working hard out there.  It's nice to see he is in a better area and being well taken care of.
