My Letters Home: February 9, 2009 - Email

February 9, 2009

Things have been pretty good this week, we found 2 new investigators and tracted 10 hours total....

The rumor for the area my companion told me that most of the elders in the past that have been here haven't worked hard at all.  So this area has a lot of potential and Hopefully we can baptize! One of our first investigator we found we set a date with!  We are teaching a less active Jehovah's Witness (JW), while we were teaching his ex-wife's sister came to visit him real quick, it was very awkward but I pretty much told her our basic belief's and she left. We taught him a full first lesson and he seems really interested in the church.

When then went home and had lunch, 1/2 way through we get a knock at the door and it was the JW's! I asked if they wanted to come in and they said, "no we might get converted..." its funny because she was serious! I tried my hardest not to laugh in there face, THATS RIGHT YOU'LL GET CONVERTED, OUR CHURCH IS TRUE!!! YYEEEAAAAHHHH!!

The area we are working in is pretty huge, its not just Elizabethville, we cover about 4 other areas just like it and all of the country area in between. I'll be taking some pictures of everything and try to get more Amish pictures, I know mom wants to see them. They look like they are in a movie or something, it makes me feel normal when walking in Walmart.

Anyways, Glad to hear that mom is riding now, 22 MILES, THAT'S WHAT IM TALKIN ABOUT, you never leave your wingman! I want to ride so bad.  I miss riding my route in Roseville.  So Hope your enjoying it! The weather is starting to get a lot warmer its been nice, been in the upper 40's and the humidity makes it feel so much hotter, its nice, for now.

The branch is really small, it was weird only have 30 people in a branch, there are 4 in primary. I'm definitely grateful for growing up in a ward, but hey I'm in the middle of nowhere!

Its awesome having a really nice apartment! Elder Ellsworth and I have been working really hard. The 3rd day I was here we had tracted 6 hours in 2 days and Ellsworth was like "man if I was in my second area and tracted this much already, I wouldn't want to tract anymore..."

Its nice to know that others see that I'm not a lazy missionary, tracting for 4 hours a day and not finding anyone to teach does suck, but complaining doesn't help anyone.

After all that tracting we found 3 new investigators and were able to teach a lot more, It definitely pays off when you work hard. The lord blesses you when you do, and its all worth it!

Hope things are going well, love ya,

Elder Holmes

So we found that he lives in Millersburg, just West of Elizabethville.  Millersburg has about 2,300 people in it, twice as many as Elizabethville. Most all of the town in this area are very small like this.  A big change for him.
