February 2, 2009 Dear Family, OK so this past week has been the worst, most crazy of my mission so far... We go tracting into freezing rain, after about 15 minutes, rain starts to come and it pours....after another 30 minutes it starts snowing, then goes to about 15 degrees and freezes everything. While walking back into the road after getting the last door slammed in our face the tree next to us, being about 50 feet tall falls and nearly kills us. Finding out later that the wind was up to 50 mph. Pretty much blowing all the snow and ice back up into my face, it was fun... Then about 15 minutes later our best investigator calls and says he doesn't want us to visit anymore. I'm like wow how much worse can this day get? About 30 seconds later I slip and fall on the ice, should have kept it to myself...worked another 3 hours and went to sleep... Second crazy story, after dinner we walk over to a part of town that is pretty ghetto. We walk a few blocks and come past a bar, "Whad up Holmes, my man?" I'm like who the crap is this guy? It was Jonathan, the drug lord we taught a few months ago, with about 3 or 4 guys with him. We shared a quick message with him and then 2 guys come our of the bar, "oh hell no, F the Mormons!" Well Jonathan pretty much told them not to mess with this Elders, throwing some choice words and then they all pulled out guns and point them at the guys, he told us to get on home, so we did... Well your probably wondering why I had to pay for a window repair, I did that after the beginning of my letter. Came home and was pissed and three an apple and shattered a window. Don't worry it was a crappy window and was only $15. Besides we all had a good laugh and I'll have another story to tell when I get back hahaha. Moms probably freaking out right now but, eh you'll get over it.... Anyways....I'm in a new area now and it's going to be interesting getting use to the change. My companion is pretty cool and I'm sure we're going to do well here in this area. I'm really going to miss Johnstown though, it was a fun area. I don't really know what I could do for Adam's baptism, I mean I could write a small talk but it wouldn't be good for an 8 year old...So I don't know but I could just write a personal/testimony type of letter if you want. Love lots, Elder Holmes Devin L. sent a copy of the receipt home with a note not to look at it until we read the letter. I thought it was pretty funny. I'm just glad it was a cheap window. That would have cost a lot more if it was a window in our house. At least in the new place he won't have to listen to gun shots in the night... |
