December 23, 2008
To my family, Well not much has happened this
week. We had our Zone Conference, made gingerbread
houses and had a fun time. It's been pretty cold this
week, yesterday it was 4 degrees outside and we tracted in
it! It was exciting, people thought we were freakin'
crazy, but were missionaries we're already crazy. We found a new investigator to teach,
he's from Philadelphia. He's pretty funny, he ordered a
Bible from Mormon.org. So we dropped it by. When we got there he thought we were the
copys. He was like, "I aint' done nothin, dun know
nobody n haven't seen nothin' maann." We told him
who we were, then he was like, "Oh ya gods people,
come on in maaan." We taught him lesson 1 (restoration) and
he said, "Maaan anyone gots to be stupid to not believe
Joseph Smith didn't have that vision." I was like
yeah pretty much... Then he talked about how he was in jail
for 4 years and how he was a Muslim there. Then he left
and started selling "dope on dat corna." He
said he would always see the missionaries while he was selling
on the corner. It was amazing to him that no one did
anything to the missionaries and even watched out for them. Then he talked about how there was no
Santa Clause in the ghetto, he was like, "Maaan aint no
santa come to my house, we aint got no chimney, if he comin
through the window, dat foo getting shot!" We just
laughed and wrapped up the lesson. It really helped me realize that us
missionaries really are watched our for and protected.
I've had violent words, guns, drug and objects thrown in my
face, but for some reason I'm not scared to stand it all in
the face and bear my testimony. Can't wait to talk with you this
Thursday, Love you, your son. Elder Holmes PS Myself and the other 3 Elders sang
this last Sunday, we sang "Angels we have heard on
high." Everyone said we did good! So sweet. Reading this reminded me of D&C 84:77-78
We pray for him every night as I know many of you do, I know that he will be protected and kept safe. |
