November 11, 2008 To My Family! This week we got to have exchanges with the Zone Leaders. Elder Carson and I did so awesome. We found a new investigator and he said he was going to come to church and would be interested in being baptized! We taught him lesson 1 so far. We have tried him twice since then but he hasn't been home, but I hope we can see him again. We were also able to teach a lady on the street and gave her a Book of Mormon, she said she would read it, which is sweet! We had transfers this week and I get to stay here in Johnstown for another 4 weeks, which is cool. We got to go to an Eagle Court of Honor last Saturday and it brought back a lot of good memories. It was awesome to tell people that I was an Eagle Scout and I'm grateful Dad pushed me to get it! On Sunday we were able to tract after dinner, to our luck the Steelers were playing so everyone was pissed when they answered the door and saw us, but it was fun anyway. It's been hard getting a lot of things thrown our way, a lot of swearing and rude gestures, Satan really tries his best to stop the work but I always think of John 15:18 "If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you." This I really didn't take to heart until now, i know that the things we teach are true and can change peoples lives! Oh yea last night we got the privilege of riding our bikes down a 3 mile hill in the dark and it was 33 degrees, freaking cold man! But I loved every minute of it! Hehehe, But don't worry Mom we have small lights on our bikes so it's all good, lol. Veterans day was today and there was a parade here in downtown. The beginning was 20 apache helicopters flew as low as humanly possible, it was awesome, it was so loud I felt like I was in Vietnam. Then all the various Army trucks and a tank came through, Adam would have loved it. I would have taken video but I didn't think it was a good idea with today's society as it is. But otherwise I'm good. It's nice to hear from everyone back home! Love your missionary Elder Holmes PS - I got you presents for Christmas! Aaaalllriigghht! From time to time the Zone Leaders will come in and do an "Exchange" for the day with the companionships. This gives the Zone Leaders a chance to work with the Elders to see how they're doing and report back to the Mission President. Especially important for new missionaries to see if they need more time with a senior companion or if they're ready to move on. |
